Ways to Observe Memorial Day

While many people see Memorial Day as a time for barbecues and
beach trips, it’s important to remember the true purpose of this day.
Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and honor for the brave men and
women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. In this
post, we will explore the many ways to observe Memorial Day.

1. Donate flowers to a soldier’s grave.

Memorial Day is the perfect opportunity to donate flowers to a soldier’s
grave. If you are unable to physically place flowers at a grave, there are
many charitable organizations that can do it for you after a monetary
donation. One of our favorites is The Memorial Day Flower Fund. You can
donate here.

2. Participate in the Murph challenge.

Crossfit gyms across the nation participate in the Murph challenge each
Memorial Day. Named in honor of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who
was killed in Afghanistan in 2005, this is a grueling workout that tests of
strength, endurance, and mental toughness.

3. Fly an American flag at half-mast until noon, then raise it fully.

The half-mast position signifies mourning, and it is a solemn reminder of the
sacrifices that have been made by brave men and women who fought for
our freedom. At noon on Memorial Day, the flag is raised all the way to the
top of the flagpole, symbolizing the resolve of the living to carry on the fight

for liberty and justice for all. This tradition has been observed for many
years and serves as a poignant reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of our
nation’s heroes.

4. Visit a war memorial or museum.

Visiting a war memorial or museum is a great way to pay your respects and
learn about the history of the brave men and women who fought to defend
our freedom. Research memorials and museums near you and consider
visiting one this Memorial Day.

5. Participate in 1 minute of silence at 3pm.

The National Moment of Remembrance is observed at 3 pm on
Memorial Day as a way to pause and honor the sacrifices of the men and
women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The
moment of silence was established by an act of Congress in 2000, and it
encourages all Americans to take a moment to reflect on the bravery and
selflessness of those who have given their lives in defense of our nation.

Remember to take a minute inbetween the hotdogs and beach trips to
pay tribute to the fallen heroes. Consider using our tips to observe
Memorial Day this year.
